 Illinois General Assembly --

Bassi Alzheimer Awareness Bill Passes Both Houses

Springfield, IL (May 12, 2005) - State Representative Suzie Bassi (R-Palatine) passed a bill through both houses of the General Assembly Wednesday which designates the month of November as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month by the state.

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Alzheimer’s is the 11th leading cause of death for adults over the age of 65,” said Bassi. “House Bill 20 helps raise the awareness of Alzheimer’s among state citizens and allows us to remember those who have died from this painful disease.”

Bassi said that 4 million elderly Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s and currently, there is no medical treatment or cure to stop the progression of the disease.

“My hope is that by raising awareness for Alzheimer’s, more people will join in the fight to find new and better treatments to bring an end to this degenerative disease,” said Bassi.
